Test Item Omission Code

Keep explicitly recorded omitted, deliberately skipped and unpresented test items separate without scoring performance.

Loading tool…

Description

Distinguish not-presented, answered, skipped and omitted item records.

Assessment records distinguish presented items, responses, deliberate skips, missingness, accommodations, versions and reference populations. A score contribution depends on its chosen denominator and weight, while one confidence gap is not a full calibration study. Recorded observations and timing differences do not establish learner ability or an appropriate intervention.

Distinguish not-presented, answered, skipped and omitted item records.

When to use this tool

Use Test Item Omission Code when you already have presented, answered, deliberatelySkipped and need to distinguish not-presented, answered, skipped and omitted item records.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter presented, answered, deliberatelySkipped. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read code. Use the output convention below.

Require answered and deliberatelySkipped to imply presented and disallow both true. Choose not-presented first, then answered, then skipped, otherwise omitted.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • This records supplied states, not learner intent, ability, invalidity or an appropriate scoring rule.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use the full assessment manual, item records, population reference and research design for score interpretation. Review missingness, exposure, accommodations and comparability; local labels or contributions do not replace psychometric analysis or an appropriate educational assessment.
