Lesson Material Copy Surplus Tool

Subtract explicitly supplied reusable copy-equivalents from individual copy demand.

Loading tool…

Description

required = max(0,learners*copiesPerLearner-sharedSets); surplus = copies-required.

Educational time and material budgets need explicit working time, pauses, transitions, capacity and rate conventions. A numerical schedule allocation is a planning aid, not a validated recommendation for learning pace or an automatically feasible timetable.

required = max(0,learners*copiesPerLearner-sharedSets); surplus = copies-required.

When to use this tool

Use Lesson Material Copy Surplus when checking a supplied teaching, study or assessment-resource budget.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter copies, learners, copiesPerLearner, sharedSets. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read required, surplus. Use the output convention below.

Require nonnegative whole copies, learners, copiesPerLearner and sharedSets. required = max(0,learners*copiesPerLearner-sharedSets); surplus = copies-required.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • sharedSets is subtracted one-for-one as copy-equivalent coverage under this convention, not multiplied by group size. Negative surplus is retained; usability and distribution are not checked.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use the actual timetable, resources, learner needs and approved policies to assess a practical plan.
