Historic Tonnage Capacity Weight Basis Tool

Separate volume-based registered tonnage and weight-based cargo tonnage using caller-sourced unit definitions.

Description

Convert supplied volume and cargo mass separately into register-ton and weight-ton quantities.

Historical monetary and physical units can have local or period-specific conversion bases. Exact subunit arithmetic and supplied mass factors preserve a declared interpretation but do not select the correct historical system automatically.

Convert supplied volume and cargo mass separately into register-ton and weight-ton quantities.

When to use this tool

Use Historic Tonnage Capacity Weight Basis when applying an explicit historical unit or subunit convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter volume, volumePerRegisterTon, cargoMass, massPerWeightTon. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read registerTons, weightTons. Use the output convention below.

Require nonnegative volume and cargoMass and positive volumePerRegisterTon and massPerWeightTon. registerTons = volume/volumePerRegisterTon; weightTons = cargoMass/massPerWeightTon.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Register tonnage is a volume measure and weight tonnage a mass measure. They are not interchangeable, and the historical unit definitions must be supplied rather than inferred.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Consult the source’s place, date and commodity or currency context before choosing conversion factors.
