Trait Weight Missing Share Tool

Calculate trait weight missing share from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Description

missingWeight sums unobserved weights; share divides it by total weight when positive, otherwise returns zero with defined = false.

Ecological sampling summaries distinguish effort, weighted support, taxon counts and relative composition. A denominator-specific fraction or single-species contribution need not describe abundance, completeness or a whole-community index.

missingWeight sums unobserved weights; share divides it by total weight when positive, otherwise returns zero with defined = false.

When to use this tool

Use Trait Weight Missing Share when checking a supplied ecological effort, support or count convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter weights, observed. Keep parallel arrays aligned. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read missingWeight, share, defined. Inspect defined before interpreting the associated values.

Require equally long nonnegative weights and observed flags. missingWeight sums unobserved weights; share divides it by total weight when positive, otherwise returns zero with defined = false.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
weightsPosition-aligned nonnegative weights under the specified model convention.Required. Array of finite number; minimum 0; maximum items 256.
observedPosition-aligned flags specifying which records are observed.Required. Array of boolean; maximum items 256.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
missingWeightMissing WeightRequired. Finite number.
shareDimensionless selected contribution divided by the stated total; not percent.Required. Finite number.
definedWhether the stated denominator has positive support; read this before interpreting a zero placeholder.Required. Boolean.

Limitations and assumptions

  • The share concerns missing weight, not observed weight. It does not impute traits, infer random missingness or validate community representativeness.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use an appropriate sampling, detection and community-analysis method for inference beyond these local summaries.
