Description
effectiveArea = grossArea-sum(excludedAreas)+overlapCorrection.
Ecological sampling summaries distinguish effort, weighted support, taxon counts and relative composition. A denominator-specific fraction or single-species contribution need not describe abundance, completeness or a whole-community index.
effectiveArea = grossArea-sum(excludedAreas)+overlapCorrection.
When to use this tool
Use Ecological Plot Effective Area when checking a supplied ecological effort, support or count convention.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter grossArea, excludedAreas, overlapCorrection. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read effectiveArea. Use the output convention below.
Require nonnegative grossArea, excludedAreas and overlapCorrection <= sum(excludedAreas), with nonnegative final area. effectiveArea = grossArea-sum(excludedAreas)+overlapCorrection.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |

| grossArea | Gross Area | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| excludedAreas | Excluded Areas | Required. Array of finite number; minimum 0; maximum items 256. |
| overlapCorrection | Overlap Correction | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |

| effectiveArea | Effective Area | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Overlap correction is the supplied duplicate-exclusion amount, not computed spatial geometry. Correct multiple-overlap accounting and ecological sampling eligibility require separate review.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
