Description
Return a point's signed radial gap from a sphere.
Radial geometry distinguishes a solid region from its boundary. A point inside a ball has zero distance to the solid, while its signed boundary gap is negative and its absolute boundary distance can be positive.
Return a point's signed radial gap from a sphere.
When to use this tool
Use Point To Sphere Signed Radial Gap when checking a supplied radial boundary or solid-region convention.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter point, center, radius. Keep parallel arrays aligned. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read signedGap. Use the output convention below.
Return a point's signed radial gap from a sphere. Require equally long nonempty point and center arrays and radius >= 0; gap = Euclidean center distance-radius.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |

| point | Point | Required. Array of finite number; maximum items 256. |
| center | Center | Required. Array of finite number; maximum items 256. |
| radius | Radius | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |

| signedGap | Signed Gap | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Coordinates use one length unit; negative gap means interior, not solid-set distance.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use full point and shape geometry when a radius or center distance has not already been established.
