Tactile Label Character Pitch Tool

Measure first-to-last character center span plus explicit end margins for a tactile label; character geometry and accessibility compliance are not inferred.

Description

Return (count-1) × pitch plus two margins.

Accessibility decisions depend on the person, context, content, and relevant design requirements. A supplied measurement or formatting check addresses one condition and cannot establish that an entire interface, sign, or space is accessible.

Return (count-1) × pitch plus two margins.

When to use this tool

Use Tactile Label Character Pitch when you need one documented accessibility component under a supplied criterion.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter characterCount, pitchMillimeters, endMarginMillimeters. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read requiredWidthMillimeters. Use the output convention below.

Require positive integer characterCount, positive pitchMillimeters, and nonnegative end margins. Return (count-1) × pitch plus two margins.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • This spans character reference positions rather than full glyph widths; braille geometry, tactile readability, fabrication, and accessibility standards are not validated.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Evaluate the complete experience with relevant guidance, appropriate expertise, and people who use the access features.
