Description
Return trial-transition time and slack against a supplied break.
Developmental task timing and coded sequences need a common clock and explicit rules for exclusions, adjacency and response windows. A delay, duration share or transition rate is descriptive rather than a measure of developmental status.
Return trial-transition time and slack against a supplied break.
When to use this tool
Use Developmental Trial Break Slack when checking a supplied task-time or coded-sequence convention.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter nextTrialAt, priorTrialEnd, suppliedBreak. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read available, slack. Use the output convention below.
Return trial-transition time and slack against a supplied break. Require suppliedBreak >= 0; available = nextTrialAt-priorTrialEnd and slack = available-break.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| nextTrialAt | Next Trial At | Required. Finite number. |
| priorTrialEnd | Prior Trial End | Required. Finite number. |
| suppliedBreak | Supplied Break | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| available | Available | Required. Finite number. |
| slack | Slack | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Negative slack is retained; no recommended break or suitable study protocol is determined.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Review the original observations and study design; use appropriate statistical and professional methods for developmental conclusions.
