Child Task Break Duration

Compare a recorded child-task break interval with an explicit plan without prescribing a break duration.

Description

Measure a recorded child-task break and its deviation from a supplied plan.

Developmental research records separate actual observations, coder presence, task versions, response states, caregiver reports and exposure counts. Calendar age differs from developmental status, while a symbol match or parent-teacher rating gap is only a recorded comparison. Pseudonyms and supplied source labels do not themselves protect identity or validate evidence.

Measure a recorded child-task break and its deviation from a supplied plan.

When to use this tool

Use Child Task Break Duration when you already have breakStartSeconds, breakEndSeconds, plannedBreakSeconds and need to measure a recorded child-task break and its deviation from a supplied plan.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter breakStartSeconds, breakEndSeconds, plannedBreakSeconds. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read actualBreakSeconds, differenceSeconds. Use the output convention below.

Require end>=start and plannedBreakSeconds>=0; actual=end-start, difference=actual-planned.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
breakStartSecondsBreak Start SecondsRequired. Finite number.
breakEndSecondsBreak End SecondsRequired. Finite number.
plannedBreakSecondsPlanned Break SecondsRequired. Finite number; minimum 0.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Negative difference means shorter than planned. No break is observed, needed duration selected or developmental/educational suitability assessed.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use the complete study or assessment method, observation records and context for developmental interpretation. Review task adaptations, reporter perspectives and data protection together; local counts, time gaps and status labels do not establish ability, diagnosis or suitable support.
