Description
Return a supplied age-equivalent minus a reference age.
Chronological, corrected and age-equivalent values use different anchors and assumptions. Arithmetic can compare supplied age coordinates, but a clinical correction or interpretation of developmental delay is not determined by subtraction alone.
Return a supplied age-equivalent minus a reference age.
When to use this tool
Use Age Equivalent Reference Offset when checking a supplied research age anchor or offset.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter suppliedAgeEquivalent, referenceAge. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read offset. Use the output convention below.
Return a supplied age-equivalent minus a reference age. Require both nonnegative and subtract referenceAge from suppliedAgeEquivalent.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| suppliedAgeEquivalent | Caller-supplied nonnegative age-equivalent label in the same age unit as referenceAge; not an equal-interval developmental measurement. | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| referenceAge | Reference Age | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| offset | Offset | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Age-equivalent values are supplied, not inferred; the difference is not an interval-scale developmental delay diagnosis.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
