Embryo Axis Length Normalized Distance Tool

Signed coordinate along an explicitly oriented axis; values outside the anchor segment remain visible.

Description

Return position relative to a supplied anterior-posterior axis.

Microscopy coordinates require scale, origin, orientation and often optical correction. A normalized landmark coordinate or refractive-index ratio is one geometric term rather than a complete image registration or validated biological measurement.

Return position relative to a supplied anterior-posterior axis.

When to use this tool

Use Embryo Axis Length Normalized Distance when checking a supplied developmental-image coordinate transformation.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter coordinate, anterior, posterior. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read fraction, distanceFromAnterior. Use the output convention below.

Return position relative to a supplied anterior-posterior axis. Require posterior > anterior; distanceFromAnterior = coordinate-anterior and fraction divides by axis length.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input

anteriorAnteriorRequired. Finite number.
posteriorPosteriorRequired. Finite number.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
fractionDimensionless fraction on the stated basis; a value of 1 represents the whole reference amount.Required. Finite number.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Out-of-axis coordinates remain allowed and produce fractions outside [0,1].
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use calibrated imaging and suitable full shape or optical models when geometry and measurement accuracy matter.
