Description
Return scalar closed-loop factor under a feedback-sign choice.
Control boundaries and stability terms depend on state history, sign conventions and the full system dynamics. A finite scalar factor, one pole or one frequency sample is not sufficient to establish safe closed-loop behavior.
Return scalar closed-loop factor under a feedback-sign choice.
When to use this tool
Use Feedback Sign Convention Loop Factor when checking a supplied saturation, hysteresis or local stability condition.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter loopGain, positiveFeedback. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read denominator, closedLoopGain. Use the output convention below.
Return scalar closed-loop factor under a feedback-sign choice. Denominator = 1-loopGain for positiveFeedback, otherwise 1+loopGain; reject zero and return loopGain/denominator.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| loopGain | Loop Gain | Required. Finite number. |
| positiveFeedback | Positive Feedback | Required. Boolean. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| denominator | Denominator | Required. Finite number. |
| closedLoopGain | loopGain/(1-loopGain) for positive feedback, otherwise loopGain/(1+loopGain); scalar local factor only. | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- A finite scalar denominator does not establish dynamic stability or physical loop realizability.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Analyze the complete dynamic system and practical constraints before interpreting a local result as robust or safe operation.
