Public Text Position Code

Encode an explicit document/section/paragraph locator without resolving document content.

Description

Encode a supplied document, section and one-based paragraph locator.

Critical annotations distinguish source voices, editorial insertions, omission markers, edition locators and caller-assigned interpretations. Case preservation and half-open text offsets describe representation rather than meaning. A bracketed token or source-role label does not verify faithful quotation, authority, an argument or its historical context.

Encode a supplied document, section and one-based paragraph locator.

When to use this tool

Use Public Text Position Code when you already have documentId, sectionCode, paragraph and need to encode a supplied document, section and one-based paragraph locator.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter documentId, sectionCode, paragraph. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read token. Use the output convention below.

Require documentId/sectionCode nonempty and paragraph a positive safe integer; serialize [documentId,sectionCode, paragraph] as JSON-array text.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • No document, section, paragraph bound, edition, interpretation or citation accuracy is verified.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Read the original passage and relevant edition with the stated interpretive and editorial conventions. Verify source context and attribution before reuse; local span labels and interpretation-objection pair keys organize records without evaluating the argument or granting quotation rights.
