Vapor Permeability Resistance Factor Tool

Convert homogeneous layer vapor permeability to thickness divided by permeability resistance in consistent units.

Loading tool…

Description

Return a homogeneous layer's vapor resistance.

Material-property conversions distinguish total quantities from values per area, mass, volume or thickness. Multiplication by a supplied density or geometry factor changes the basis only when its units and the material state agree with the original measurement.

Return a homogeneous layer's vapor resistance.

When to use this tool

Use Vapor Permeability Resistance Factor when converting the stated material-property basis using compatible supplied quantities.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter permeability, thickness. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read resistance. Use the output convention below.

Return a homogeneous layer's vapor resistance. Require positive thickness and permeability; resistance = thickness/permeability.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
permeabilityPermeabilityRequired. Finite number; strictly above 0.

Limitations and assumptions

  • The units follow the chosen vapor-driving-potential convention; surface resistances and complete assembly behavior are omitted.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use verified unit definitions and state-specific material data; model interfaces, layers and measurement geometry explicitly for complete physical calculations.
