Description
Return conductivity from thermal diffusivity, density and specific heat.
Material-property conversions distinguish total quantities from values per area, mass, volume or thickness. Multiplication by a supplied density or geometry factor changes the basis only when its units and the material state agree with the original measurement.
Return conductivity from thermal diffusivity, density and specific heat.
When to use this tool
Use Conversion: Thermal Diffusivity Conductivity Crosswalk when converting the stated material-property basis using compatible supplied quantities.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter diffusivity, density, specificHeat. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read result. Expand result to inspect the returned fields.
Return conductivity from thermal diffusivity, density and specific heat. Require all positive; conductivity = diffusivity*density*specificHeat.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| diffusivity | Diffusivity | Required. Finite number. |
| density | Density on the same physical and unit basis as the supplied reference or component; see the formula above. | Required. Finite number. |
| specificHeat | Specific Heat | Required. Finite number. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| result | Returned calculated value or nested object under the stated output convention. | Required. Object. |
| result.conductivity | Conductivity | Calculated result member: number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Use m²/s, kg/m³ and J/(kg K) for W/(m K); material state and property consistency are supplied.
- Outputs are nested inside result. Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use verified unit definitions and state-specific material data; model interfaces, layers and measurement geometry explicitly for complete physical calculations.
