Thermal Conductance Layer Resistance Pair Tool

Return ideal uniform plane-layer thermal conductance and resistance without contact resistances.

Description

Return layer conductance and its reciprocal resistance.

Material-property conversions distinguish total quantities from values per area, mass, volume or thickness. Multiplication by a supplied density or geometry factor changes the basis only when its units and the material state agree with the original measurement.

Return layer conductance and its reciprocal resistance.

When to use this tool

Use Thermal Conductance Layer Resistance Pair when converting the stated material-property basis using compatible supplied quantities.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter conductivity, area, thickness. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read conductance, resistance. Use the output convention below.

Return layer conductance and its reciprocal resistance. Require positive conductivity, area and thickness; conductance = conductivity*area/thickness, resistance = 1/conductance.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Use SI inputs for W/K and K/W; this assumes one uniform conduction layer without contacts or temperature variation.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use verified unit definitions and state-specific material data; model interfaces, layers and measurement geometry explicitly for complete physical calculations.
