Description
Return clear opening and open-area fraction of a square wire mesh.
A physical ratio such as pressure head, viscosity, interface tension or mesh opening assumes supplied material properties and geometry. Its units can be consistent even when the model omits important interfaces, temperature effects or actual shape.
Return clear opening and open-area fraction of a square wire mesh.
When to use this tool
Use Conversion: Mesh Pitch To Opening With Wire when checking the stated fluid-property or geometric conversion.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter pitchMm, wireDiameterMm. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read result. Expand result to inspect the returned fields.
Return clear opening and open-area fraction of a square wire mesh. Require pitchMm > 0 and wireDiameterMm in [0,pitch]; openingMm = pitch-wire, openAreaFraction = (opening/pitch)².1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| pitchMm | Pitch Mm Unit: mm. | Required. Finite number. |
| wireDiameterMm | Wire Diameter Mm Unit: mm. | Required. Finite number. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| result | Returned calculated value or nested object under the stated output convention. | Required. Object. |
| result.openingMm | Opening Mm | Calculated result member: number. |
| result.openAreaFraction | Open Area Fraction | Calculated result member: number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- This assumes orthogonal uniform round-wire spacing; no manufacturing standard, particle capture or physical sample is verified.
- Outputs are nested inside result. Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
