Description
Convert binary-solution molality to solute mass fraction.
Amount, mass and volume bases are distinct. Converting among them requires the appropriate molar mass, density, solvent basis or gas reference state; no universal factor can replace these supplied conventions.
Convert binary-solution molality to solute mass fraction.
When to use this tool
Use Concentration Molality Mass Fraction Solvent Basis when converting the stated concentration, molar quantity or gas-volume basis.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter molality, molarMass. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read massFraction. Use the output convention below.
Convert binary-solution molality to solute mass fraction. Require molality >= 0 and molarMass > 0; r = molality*molarMass, massFraction = r/(1+r).1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| molality | Moles of solute per kilogram of solvent. | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| molarMass | Kilograms of solute per mole; kg/mol is required for the stated kg-solvent molality formula. | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| massFraction | Mass Fraction | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Molality must be mol per kg of solvent and molar mass kg/mol; solvent mass, rather than total solution mass, defines the input basis.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use explicit compatible units and verified composition/state data; use a full mixture or equation-of-state model when fixed-property assumptions do not apply.
