Description
Compare item-value share with a reference share.
Consumer-study records can describe exposure, recall, option availability and purchase-value bases. Local record arithmetic preserves a supplied study or billing convention without measuring preferences, establishing memory accuracy or determining consumer rights.
Compare item-value share with a reference share.
When to use this tool
Use Basket Item Share Gap when checking a supplied consumer-record, recall-window, choice or basket convention.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter itemValue, basketValue, referenceShare. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read share, gap. Use the output convention below.
Compare item-value share with a reference share. Require basketValue > 0, itemValue in [0,basket] and referenceShare in [0,1]; share = item/basket, gap = share-reference.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| itemValue | Item Value | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| basketValue | Basket Value | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| referenceShare | Reference Share | Required. Finite number; minimum 0; maximum 1. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| share | Dimensionless numerator/denominator ratio under the explicit basis above. | Required. Finite number. |
| gap | Signed difference under the stated comparison convention, with matching units. | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Values must share currency and valuation basis; this is not a recommendation or inferred consumer preference.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use actual study data, validated measurement methods and applicable merchant/consumer rules for substantive behavioral or transaction conclusions.
