Simulation Population Fraction Residual Tool

Compare supplied simulation counts with independently supplied candidate fractions without fitting a biological model.

Description

Compare count-derived population fractions with supplied fractions.

Computational biology distinguishes discrete counts, probabilistic weights, sequence indexes and logical rules. A supplied event or record flag can be summarized without simulating a stochastic process, validating a sequence annotation or establishing a biological mechanism.

Compare count-derived population fractions with supplied fractions.

When to use this tool

Use Simulation Population Fraction Residual when checking the stated count, sequence, Boolean-rule or support convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter counts, suppliedFractions. Keep parallel arrays aligned. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read countFractions, residuals. Use the output convention below.

Compare count-derived population fractions with supplied fractions. Require aligned arrays, nonnegative counts with positive sum and supplied fractions in [0,1]; return count/sum and countFraction-supplied for each position.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Supplied fractions need not sum to one; no stochastic population, uncertainty or model fit is inferred.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use the complete sequence, identifier universe or stochastic/logical model for actual inference, sampling and uncertainty analysis.
