Description

Map a page through one anchor offset.

Comparative-literature annotations connect editions, passages, speakers, structural frames and count units. Literal keys and normalized lengths can support consistent records while textual meaning, translation fidelity and bibliographic authority remain matters for source-aware editorial analysis.

Map a page through one anchor offset.

When to use this tool

Use Edition Pagination Offset One Gathering when checking a supplied literary annotation, cross-edition offset or count convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter sourcePage, sourceAnchor, targetAnchor. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read targetPage, offset. Use the output convention below.

Map a page through one anchor offset. Require positive whole sourcePage/sourceAnchor/targetAnchor and positive mapped page; targetPage = sourcePage-sourceAnchor+targetAnchor, offset = targetAnchor-sourceAnchor.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • This assumes a constant offset within the relevant gathering, without missing pages, nonlinear pagination or edition lookup.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Inspect the source editions and their annotation/counting policy for substantive literary, translation or provenance conclusions.
