Volunteer Shift Handover Overlap

Report supplied volunteer handover overlap or gap using shared monotonic timestamps.

Description

Separate supplied volunteer-handover overlap and gap durations.

Community records describe contributions, volunteer time, grants, notices, language requests and meeting participation. Person-minutes differ from elapsed task time, assigned in-kind values require a valuation basis, and a nominal seat count need not be a whole-person allocation. Supplied participation or permission flags do not verify actual access, consent or eligibility.

Separate supplied volunteer-handover overlap and gap durations.

When to use this tool

Use Volunteer Shift Handover Overlap when you already have outgoingEnd, incomingStart and need to separate supplied volunteer-handover overlap and gap durations.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter outgoingEnd, incomingStart. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read overlapDuration, gapDuration. Use the output convention below.

Return max(0,outgoingEnd-incomingStart) and max(0,incomingStart-outgoingEnd).1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input

Limitations and assumptions

  • Only two supplied boundaries are used. No actual shifts, staffing, overlap allocation, service adequacy or safe handover is verified.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Review the underlying meeting, funding, service and volunteer records with the applicable project rules. Use full budgets, schedules and participation evidence when evaluating delivery or fairness; local labels and arithmetic retain only the stated assumptions.
