Stimulus Feature Contrast Gap Tool

Compare a supplied signed feature difference with a reference; no perceptual contrast model is assumed.

Loading tool…

Description

Return a supplied stimulus-feature contrast and reference residual.

Cognitive research records can encode stimuli, response timing, probability assumptions and observation support. Local differences and caller-defined tolerance labels do not establish perceptual validity, a cognitive mechanism, statistical equivalence or a clinical assessment.

Return a supplied stimulus-feature contrast and reference residual.

When to use this tool

Use Stimulus Feature Contrast Gap when checking a supplied cognitive-task timing, stimulus, probability or evidence convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter first, second, referenceContrast. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read contrast, residual. Use the output convention below.

Return a supplied stimulus-feature contrast and reference residual. contrast = first-second, residual = contrast-referenceContrast.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Features require a common scale; this arithmetic difference does not establish perceptual contrast, calibration or discriminability.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use a validated study design, calibrated measurements and appropriate statistical/professional interpretation for cognitive or health conclusions.
