Trial Drug Return Count Balance

Reconcile explicit trial-drug dispensed and returned unit counts without inferring ingestion or adherence.

Description

Reconcile supplied dispensed, additional and returned trial-drug counts.

Trial records distinguish protocol labels, participant events, supply balances and cutoff policies. An inclusive cutoff differs from an exclusive one, and a drug-accountability balance does not establish adherence or a suitable dose. Supplied consent and observation states are not independently verified by a local calculation.

Reconcile supplied dispensed, additional and returned trial-drug counts.

When to use this tool

Use Trial Drug Return Count Balance when you already have dispensedUnits, additionalUnits, returnedUnits and need to reconcile supplied dispensed, additional and returned trial-drug counts.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter dispensedUnits, additionalUnits, returnedUnits. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read closingBalance. Use the output convention below.

Require nonnegative safe whole counts; compute dispensed+additional-returned with BigInt and export a safe integer.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
dispensedUnitsDispensed UnitsRequired. Safe integer; minimum 0.
additionalUnitsAdditional UnitsRequired. Safe integer; minimum 0.
returnedUnitsReturned UnitsRequired. Safe integer; minimum 0.

closingBalanceExact dispensed+additional-returned integer balance; negative discrepancies are retained, not interpreted as adherence.Required. Safe integer.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Negative balances are retained and unsafe exports rejected. No adherence, dosing, inventory, actual return, accountability or appropriate medicine use is established.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Check the controlled protocol, source records, accountability logs and applicable oversight requirements. Use the full trial workflow and analysis for participant or study decisions; local date comparisons and labels do not determine safety, eligibility or treatment.
