Description
Convert a reported effect and compare with a reference.
Research effect estimates depend on outcome definitions, unit conversions, orientation and statistical assumptions. A written rounding envelope describes reporting precision; an effect-size contribution or supplied interval is different from a fitted analysis, a confidence statement or evidence of clinical benefit.
Convert a reported effect and compare with a reference.
When to use this tool
Use Claim Effect Unit Reference Gap when checking the stated effect-size, measurement or interval convention.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter reportedEffect, unitFactor, referenceEffect. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read convertedEffect, residual. Use the output convention below.
Convert a reported effect and compare with a reference. Require unitFactor > 0; convertedEffect = reportedEffect*factor, residual = converted-referenceEffect.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| reportedEffect | Reported Effect | Required. Finite number. |
| unitFactor | Unit Factor | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| referenceEffect | Reference Effect | Required. Finite number. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| convertedEffect | Converted Effect | Required. Finite number. |
| residual | Signed difference in the direction stated above, with matching units. | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- The factor and compatible effect definitions are supplied; no unit lookup, meta-analysis or clinical interpretation is performed.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use a complete, justified statistical analysis and original study data; distinguish reporting precision from sampling uncertainty and assess clinical relevance independently.
