Reactor Space Velocity Time Crosswalk

Crosswalk volumetric space velocity and nominal space time using one explicit positive flow and consistently defined reference volume.

Loading tool…

Description

Crosswalk supplied volumetric flow and reference volume to space velocity and time.

Engineering scalar terms depend on mass versus mole bases, absolute state variables and the process boundary. A vapor/liquid ratio differs from a reaction equilibrium constant, space time differs from a measured residence-time distribution, and fouling-area scaling preserves a specified heat-transfer product. Supplied terms do not validate an actual process.

Crosswalk supplied volumetric flow and reference volume to space velocity and time.

When to use this tool

Use Reactor Space Velocity Time Crosswalk when you already have volumetricFlow, referenceVolume and need to crosswalk supplied volumetric flow and reference volume to space velocity and time.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter volumetricFlow, referenceVolume. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read spaceVelocity, spaceTime. Use the output convention below.

Require both positive; return flow/volume and volume/flow.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Volume/flow units and reference conditions must match. These nominal ratios are not a measured residence-time distribution, void-volume correction, reaction conversion or a reactor design.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use complete material, energy, phase and equipment models with verified operating conditions. Check concentration bases, gas reference states and measurement uncertainty before applying local ratios or balances to process design or operation.
