Membrane Stage Cut Single Pass

Calculate single-pass membrane stage cut and retentate from explicit compatible feed and permeate flows.

Description

Calculate a supplied single-pass membrane flow split.

Engineering scalar terms depend on mass versus mole bases, absolute state variables and the process boundary. A vapor/liquid ratio differs from a reaction equilibrium constant, space time differs from a measured residence-time distribution, and fouling-area scaling preserves a specified heat-transfer product. Supplied terms do not validate an actual process.

Calculate a supplied single-pass membrane flow split.

When to use this tool

Use Membrane Stage Cut Single Pass when you already have permeateFlow, feedFlow and need to calculate a supplied single-pass membrane flow split.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter permeateFlow, feedFlow. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read stageCut, retentateFlow. Use the output convention below.

Require feedFlow positive/finite and permeate within feed; stageCut=permeate/feed, retentate=feed-permeate.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Flow units and reference conditions must agree. No species selectivity, membrane performance, recovery, multistage balance or safe design is established.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use complete material, energy, phase and equipment models with verified operating conditions. Check concentration bases, gas reference states and measurement uncertainty before applying local ratios or balances to process design or operation.
