Single Effect Evaporation Water Balance

Balance a nonvolatile-solids single-effect evaporator using explicit feed and product mass fractions, excluding entrainment.

Description

Calculate supplied evaporator product and removed-water mass-flow terms.

Engineering scalar terms depend on mass versus mole bases, absolute state variables and the process boundary. A vapor/liquid ratio differs from a reaction equilibrium constant, space time differs from a measured residence-time distribution, and fouling-area scaling preserves a specified heat-transfer product. Supplied terms do not validate an actual process.

Calculate supplied evaporator product and removed-water mass-flow terms.

When to use this tool

Use Single Effect Evaporation Water Balance when you already have feedMassFlow, feedSolidsFraction, productSolidsFraction and need to calculate supplied evaporator product and removed-water mass-flow terms.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter feedMassFlow, feedSolidsFraction, productSolidsFraction. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read productMassFlow, evaporatedWaterFlow. Use the output convention below.

Require feed>=0, feed-solids fraction in [0,1] and product-solids fraction in (0,1] at least feed fraction; product=feed*feedFraction/productFraction, water=feed-product.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Assumes steady nonvolatile-solids conservation on a matching mass basis. No heat balance, phase equilibrium, actual evaporation, equipment or safe process conditions are determined.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use complete material, energy, phase and equipment models with verified operating conditions. Check concentration bases, gas reference states and measurement uncertainty before applying local ratios or balances to process design or operation.
