Leaf Petiole Inclusion Base Flag Tool

Calculate leaf petiole inclusion base flag from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Description

Return leaf length under a petiole-inclusion policy.

Botanical measurements use explicit specimen geometry, pixel scales, length origins and angular direction. A projected-area ratio or geometric contribution summarizes supplied measurements without identifying a species, recovering an actual shape or establishing biological health.

Return leaf length under a petiole-inclusion policy.

When to use this tool

Use Leaf Petiole Inclusion Base Flag when checking the stated plant-measurement, geometry or angular convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter bladeLength, petioleLength, includePetiole. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read reportedLength, petioleFraction. Use the output convention below.

Return leaf length under a petiole-inclusion policy. Require nonnegative blade/petiole lengths with positive sum; reportedLength adds petiole only when includePetiole, petioleFraction always divides petiole by blade+petiole.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input

includePetioleInclude PetioleRequired. Boolean.

reportedLengthReported LengthRequired. Finite number.
petioleFractionPetiole divided by full blade-plus-petiole length, independently of reportedLength policy.Required. Finite number.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Reported and fraction denominators follow different explicit bases; no botanical measurement protocol or leaf morphology is verified.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Inspect the specimen and measurement protocol, apply verified calibration and use an appropriate biological or geometric model for substantive interpretation.
