Leaf Outline Solidity Tool

Calculate leaf outline solidity from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Description

Return leaf-outline solidity and convex-area deficit.

Botanical measurements use explicit specimen geometry, pixel scales, length origins and angular direction. A projected-area ratio or geometric contribution summarizes supplied measurements without identifying a species, recovering an actual shape or establishing biological health.

Return leaf-outline solidity and convex-area deficit.

When to use this tool

Use Leaf Outline Solidity when checking the stated plant-measurement, geometry or angular convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter leafArea, hullArea. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read solidity, deficit. Use the output convention below.

Return leaf-outline solidity and convex-area deficit. Require hullArea > 0 and leafArea in [0,hull]; solidity = leaf/hull, deficit = hull-leaf.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
leafAreaLeaf AreaRequired. Finite number; minimum 0.
hullAreaHull AreaRequired. Finite number; strictly above 0.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
soliditySolidityRequired. Finite number.
deficitDeficitRequired. Finite number.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Areas and hull are supplied, not segmented or geometrically validated; no species or plant-health inference is made.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Inspect the specimen and measurement protocol, apply verified calibration and use an appropriate biological or geometric model for substantive interpretation.
