Assay Limit Blank Standard Deviation Term Tool

Evaluate a caller-specified mean-plus-deviation blank-limit model without selecting a clinical or regulatory coefficient.

Description

Return a supplied blank-based threshold term.

Laboratory quantities depend on sample volume, concentration basis, blank correction, geometry and calibration. A dilution, recovery fraction or signal correction evaluates a supplied measurement model without validating the assay, identifying a substance or establishing biological or clinical performance.

Return a supplied blank-based threshold term.

When to use this tool

Use Assay Limit Blank Standard Deviation Term when checking the stated laboratory bookkeeping, signal, sample or measurement convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter blankMean, blankDeviation, coefficient. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read limit. Use the output convention below.

Return a supplied blank-based threshold term. Require blankDeviation/coefficient >= 0; limit = blankMean+coefficient*blankDeviation.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • The coefficient is caller-selected; this is not automatically a validated limit of blank/detection, clinical cutoff or assay acceptance criterion.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use verified sample records, calibrated equipment and an appropriate validated measurement method; assess uncertainty and practical laboratory conditions independently.
