Name Usage Accepted Synonym Label

Label an explicitly recorded name-usage status without determining accepted taxonomy.

Description

Label a supplied name-usage status.

Taxonomic records preserve author wording, publication sources, parent assignments and nomenclatural context. Parenthesizing an author is a formatting choice, and a supplied year field need not be restricted to modern calendar years. A source-qualified relationship does not establish accepted classification, valid publication or identity.

Label a supplied name-usage status.

When to use this tool

Use Name Usage Accepted Synonym Label when you already have nameUsageId, recordedStatus and need to label a supplied name-usage status.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter nameUsageId, recordedStatus. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read label. Use the output convention below.

Require nameUsageId nonempty and status accepted/synonym/unresolved/misapplied/unspecified; append it.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Status is a supplied assertion, not a registry lookup, accepted-name resolution, nomenclatural judgment or biological identification.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Consult the relevant specimens, original publications and controlled nomenclatural sources. Use complete taxonomic evidence and applicable codes for a classification decision; local formatting and keys do not adjudicate names or relationships.
