Remediation Blank Basis Factor Tool

Scale a supplied blank to a common mass basis without selecting remediation agents or conditions.

Loading tool…

Description

Scale a blank to sample mass before normalization.

Environmental-remediation bookkeeping uses explicit water, soil, dry-mass, concentration and sampling bases. A local mass residual, censored-result bound or supplied target margin does not identify a removal mechanism, establish representativeness or determine an environmentally acceptable contaminant level.

Scale a blank to sample mass before normalization.

When to use this tool

Use Remediation Blank Basis Factor when checking the stated remediation measurement, mass/volume balance or support convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter sampleSignal, blankSignal, sampleMass, blankEquivalentMass. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read scaledBlank, correctedPerMass. Use the output convention below.

Scale a blank to sample mass before normalization. Require sampleMass/blankEquivalentMass > 0; scaledBlank = blankSignal*sampleMass/blankEquivalentMass, correctedPerMass = (sampleSignal-scaledBlank)/sampleMass.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Signals can be signed; the blank basis and linear scaling are supplied, without analytical validation or hazard interpretation.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use verified sampling and analytical data, consistent material/unit bases and a complete transport or treatment model; involve qualified environmental professionals for practical or regulatory decisions.
