Description
Compare a site/reference ratio with a supplied ratio.
Environmental-remediation bookkeeping uses explicit water, soil, dry-mass, concentration and sampling bases. A local mass residual, censored-result bound or supplied target margin does not identify a removal mechanism, establish representativeness or determine an environmentally acceptable contaminant level.
Compare a site/reference ratio with a supplied ratio.
When to use this tool
Use Reference Site Ratio Gap when checking the stated remediation measurement, mass/volume balance or support convention.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter siteValue, referenceValue, suppliedRatio. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read ratio, residual. Use the output convention below.
Compare a site/reference ratio with a supplied ratio. Require referenceValue != 0; ratio = site/reference, residual = suppliedRatio-ratio.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| siteValue | Site Value | Required. Finite number. |
| referenceValue | Reference Value | Required. Finite number. |
| suppliedRatio | Supplied Ratio | Required. Finite number. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| ratio | Ratio | Required. Finite number. |
| residual | Signed difference in the direction stated above, with matching units. | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Signed values are allowed; reference suitability, analytical comparability and environmental compliance are not established.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use verified sampling and analytical data, consistent material/unit bases and a complete transport or treatment model; involve qualified environmental professionals for practical or regulatory decisions.
