Scaffold Axis Shrinkage Ratio

Compare explicit original and measured lengths on one axis, preserving expansion as negative shrinkage.

Loading tool…

Description

Calculate retained-length and shrinkage fractions from supplied lengths.

Fabrication records distinguish supplied design versions, geometry, image clocks and material lots. Porosity depends on an envelope-volume definition, compression-positive strain differs from extension-positive strain, and nominal circular nozzle area does not determine printed line width. These scalar terms preserve supplied measurement assumptions.

Calculate retained-length and shrinkage fractions from supplied lengths.

When to use this tool

Use Scaffold Axis Shrinkage Ratio when you already have originalLength, measuredLength and need to calculate retained-length and shrinkage fractions from supplied lengths.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter originalLength, measuredLength. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read retainedLengthFraction, shrinkageFraction. Use the output convention below.

Require originalLength>0 and measuredLength>=0; return measured/original and 1-measured/original.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
originalLengthOriginal LengthRequired. Finite number; strictly above 0.
measuredLengthMeasured LengthRequired. Finite number; minimum 0.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
retainedLengthFractionRetained Length FractionRequired. Finite number.
shrinkageFraction1-measured/original length; a decimal fraction, negative for growth.Required. Finite number.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Length growth gives negative shrinkage. Use the same axis and units; volumetric change, anisotropy and material properties are not inferred.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Inspect calibrated geometry, controlled design/material records and the complete process model. Use appropriate physical and biological assessment when evaluating a real construct, device or fabrication condition.
