Description

Check one citation's supplied author overlap.

Bibliographic records connect authors, versions, publication dates and locators through explicit identifiers. Literal comparisons and counts help reconcile those records but do not retrieve publications, authenticate sources or establish the quality or meaning of a citation.

Check one citation's supplied author overlap.

When to use this tool

Use Self Citation Exclusion One Record when checking the stated bibliographic record, locator, date or counting convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter citingAuthors, citedAuthors, exclude. Follow any array-alignment requirements below. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read sharedAuthors, selfCitation, counted. Inspect selfCitation, counted before interpreting the associated values.

Check one citation's supplied author overlap. Deduplicate citing authors, intersect with cited authors, selfCitation means any match, counted excludes it only when exclude is true.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Author identifiers are literal and supplied; name disambiguation, citation intent and a complete self-citation policy are not inferred.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Inspect the original publications and authoritative metadata, and use complete identifier-aware reference management for scholarly attribution and evidence appraisal.
