Description
Label a supplied publication state.
Bibliographic records distinguish editions, publication states, author identifiers, dates and fractional-credit conventions. A DOI-shaped string may not resolve, and an ORCID-shaped string can fail its checksum. Supplied status and source labels organize evidence without establishing authorship, publication validity or a complete impact measure.
Label a supplied publication state.
When to use this tool
Use Citation In Press Versus Published Tag when you already have referenceId, publicationStatus and need to label a supplied publication state.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter referenceId, publicationStatus. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read label. Use the output convention below.
Require nonempty referenceId and publicationStatus in-press, published, preprint or unknown; append it in square brackets.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|

| publicationStatus | Publication Status | Required. Text; one of "in-press", "published", "preprint", "unknown"; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| label | Label | Required. Text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |
{
"input": {
"referenceId": "R17",
"publicationStatus": "in-press"
},
"output": {
"label": "R17 [in-press]"
}
} Limitations and assumptions
- The state is recorded rather than retrieved or verified; it does not establish peer review, publication chronology or the authoritative version.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Check original publications, authoritative identifier records and current publisher notices. Define counting scope, credit allocation and date meaning before combining local labels or author overlaps into a bibliometric analysis.
