Author Count Fractional Credit

Split an explicitly weighted publication equally among its recorded author count without inferring contributions.

Description

Divide a supplied work weight equally across authors.

Bibliographic records distinguish editions, publication states, author identifiers, dates and fractional-credit conventions. A DOI-shaped string may not resolve, and an ORCID-shaped string can fail its checksum. Supplied status and source labels organize evidence without establishing authorship, publication validity or a complete impact measure.

Divide a supplied work weight equally across authors.

When to use this tool

Use Author Count Fractional Credit when you already have authorCount, workWeight and need to divide a supplied work weight equally across authors.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter authorCount, workWeight. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read creditPerAuthor. Use the output convention below.

Require a positive safe whole authorCount and workWeight>=0; return workWeight/authorCount.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • The output is a fractional-credit convention rather than a measured contribution or authorship judgment. No author roles, identities or complete impact metric are assessed.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Check original publications, authoritative identifier records and current publisher notices. Define counting scope, credit allocation and date meaning before combining local labels or author overlaps into a bibliometric analysis.
