Supplied Disk Zone Interpretation
Apply caller-supplied disk-diffusion zone breakpoints; I retains the supplied classification scheme and is not universally interpreted as intermediate.
Description
Disk-diffusion classification depends on organism, drug, method and the current interpretation scheme.
Disk-diffusion classification depends on organism, drug, method and the current interpretation scheme. The middle code I must keep that scheme's meaning rather than always being expanded as intermediate.1
Apply caller-supplied disk-diffusion zone breakpoints; I retains the supplied classification scheme and is not universally interpreted as intermediate.
When to use Supplied Disk Zone Interpretation
Use this tool to apply caller-supplied disk-diffusion zone breakpoints; I retains the supplied classification scheme and is not universally interpreted as intermediate.
Prepare the sample, count, growth or assay measurements requested by this tool. Confirm units, sampling periods and reporting bases; supply independently established comparison criteria where requested.
How to use Supplied Disk Zone Interpretation and understand its results
- Prepare the sample, count, growth or assay measurements requested by this tool. Confirm units, sampling periods and reporting bases; supply independently established comparison criteria where requested.
- Enter zoneDiameterMm, resistantMaximumMm, susceptibleMinimumMm using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
- Read category, distanceToSusceptibleBoundaryMm. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
- If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
| Input field | Meaning | Value type; see rules below | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| zoneDiameterMm | Zone diameter mm | number; minimum: 0 | Required |
| resistantMaximumMm | Resistant maximum mm | number; minimum: 0 | Required |
| susceptibleMinimumMm | Susceptible minimum mm | number | Required |
Enter nonnegative zone diameter and resistant upper boundary in mm, with susceptible lower boundary strictly greater than the resistant boundary. The tool applies the two inclusive endpoint comparisons and returns the category plus zone-minus-susceptible-boundary distance. Negative distance means the susceptible threshold was not reached.
R if zone≤resistantMaximum; S if zone≥susceptibleMinimum; otherwise I Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.
| Output field | Meaning | Value type |
|---|---|---|
| category | Category | string |
| distanceToSusceptibleBoundaryMm | Distance to susceptible boundary mm | number |

} Limitations and assumptions
Breakpoints are supplied and not looked up or checked for currency. This does not validate assay QC, identify an organism or recommend therapy; category meaning remains tied to the caller's scheme.
Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use Disk QC Range Audit: Audit observed QC disk zones against supplied strain-, drug-, and method-specific inclusive ranges. For a complementary task, use Drug Antibiogram Tally: Deduplicate isolate/drug results and compute drug-specific susceptibility percentages with a caller minimum sample size; breakpoints must already be applied.
