Motility Hanging Drop Motion Score Rater
Score independently tracked hanging-drop displacement against a caller motion threshold; Brownian-only or unknown observations are not positive motility.
Description
Score independently tracked hanging-drop displacement against a caller motion threshold; Brownian-only or unknown observations are not positive motility.
Directed displacement and Brownian movement are different kinds of motion evidence. A thresholded displacement rate can summarize a supplied observation without identifying a bacterium.
When to use this tool
Score independently tracked hanging-drop displacement against a caller motion threshold; Brownian-only or unknown observations are not positive motility.
- Prepare the supplied netDisplacementMicrometres, elapsedSeconds, callerMotionThreshold, brownianOnly, observationKnown fields for this operation.
- Compare the complete example with the representation used by your own input before carrying the result into another step.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter netDisplacementMicrometres, elapsedSeconds, callerMotionThreshold, brownianOnly, observationKnown. Use the exact text syntax, units and index conventions explained below.
- Run the tool. If input validation fails, correct the supplied fields before interpreting any result.
- Read result.observedSpeedMicrometresPerSecond, result.motionEvidence. Interpret false, null and empty lists using the distinctions below; they can be valid outputs.
Require nonnegative netDisplacementMicrometres/callerMotionThreshold and positive elapsedSeconds, then divide displacement by time. Label unknown if observationKnown is false; otherwise prefer brownian-only when brownianOnly is true, then directed-motion-supported only when speed is strictly above the threshold, or not-above-threshold otherwise.1
| Input field | Meaning and representation | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| netDisplacementMicrometres | net displacement micrometres. | Finite number; zero or greater |
| elapsedSeconds | elapsed seconds. | Finite number; greater than zero |
| callerMotionThreshold | caller motion threshold. | Finite number; zero or greater |
| brownianOnly | Explicit choice for brownian only; supply a boolean rather than a text label. | true or false |
| observationKnown | True only when the feature observation is actually known; false preserves an indeterminate/unknown outcome. | true or false |
| Output field | Interpretation |
|---|---|
| result | Object containing the named outputs below. |
| result.observedSpeedMicrometresPerSecond | The observed speed micrometres per second value under the stated formula or text convention. |
| result.motionEvidence | The motion evidence value under the stated formula or text convention. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- The speed is still calculated when the observation is unknown or Brownian-only. No video tracking, drift correction or assay control is evaluated; equality with the supplied threshold does not pass and no species conclusion is drawn.
- Every declared top-level field is required and unexpected fields are rejected. Numeric inputs must be finite; ordinary text fields are bounded to 8,192 UTF-16 code units, with tighter operation-specific limits where stated.
- Ordinary string lists have at most 128 entries of at most 128 code units each; numeric lists and matrices have separate bounded size checks. Nonfinite results and excessively large serialized outputs are rejected.
- Indexes are zero-based and spans have an exclusive end unless explicitly stated otherwise. A valid false, null or empty-list result is distinct from malformed input.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Retain specimen context, controls and independently observed features alongside a test label. Use a complete validated identification or analytical workflow when conclusions require several assays; a single stored morphology definition, feature flag or threshold comparison does not identify an organism.
