Audiology Frequency Interaural Gap

Calculate right-minus-left supplied thresholds at one shared frequency and reference unit without diagnosing asymmetry.

Loading tool…

Description

Calculate a supplied right-minus-left hearing-threshold difference.

Hearing records depend on frequency, laterality, masking status, calibration and level reference. A no-response label differs from a measured threshold, while an air-minus-bone gap requires comparable test conditions. Device charge arithmetic and scalar signal offsets do not establish hearing status or suitable care.

Calculate a supplied right-minus-left hearing-threshold difference.

When to use this tool

Use Audiology Frequency Interaural Gap when you already have leftEarThreshold, rightEarThreshold and need to calculate a supplied right-minus-left hearing-threshold difference.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter leftEarThreshold, rightEarThreshold. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read signedGap. Use the output convention below.

Return rightEarThreshold-leftEarThreshold with signs preserved.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Thresholds require the same frequency, method and level reference. No asymmetry criterion, hearing status or suitable intervention is determined.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Review original audiograms, instrument settings, test records and the complete clinical context. Use an appropriate professional assessment for interpretation; local unit conversions and supplied labels do not choose tests, presentation levels or intervention.
