Aerosol Neutralization Equivalent Balance Tool

Calculate aerosol neutralization equivalent balance from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Description

Return cation/anion equivalent balance.

Atmospheric analytical quantities require explicit sample/background, mole, charge, reference-pressure and reporting bases. A ratio or balance can be consistent numerically without establishing actual composition, sample representativeness, source identity or a health/regulatory interpretation.

Return cation/anion equivalent balance.

When to use this tool

Use Aerosol Neutralization Equivalent Balance when checking the stated atmospheric chemical measurement, composition or amount convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter cationMoles, cationCharges, anionMoles, anionChargeMagnitudes. Follow any array-alignment requirements below. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read positiveEquivalents, negativeEquivalents, residual. Use the output convention below.

Return cation/anion equivalent balance. Require paired nonnegative mole arrays and positive supplied charge magnitudes; sum moles*charge separately, residual = positiveEquivalents-negativeEquivalents.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Charge magnitudes must be positive whole numbers; no ion speciation, aerosol acidity or electrical equilibrium is independently solved.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use calibrated analytical data, compatible units and complete sampling/speciation information; consult appropriate environmental professionals for exposure or regulatory decisions.
