Student Art Caption Length Gap Tool

Compare literal caption length in explicit UTF-16 units or code points; no grapheme or language inference.

Description

Return caption length and supplied-bound gaps.

Labels, grid coordinates and color-wheel exercises use chosen text-counting and angle conventions. Character counts do not measure visual width, and cyclic indexing does not select a color model. Supplied glyph-width and layout assumptions are estimates rather than a rendered typography check.

Return caption length and supplied-bound gaps.

When to use this tool

Use Student Art Caption Length Gap when checking the stated classroom label or cyclic-angle convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter caption, suppliedMinimum, suppliedMaximum, countCodePoints. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read length, belowMinimum, aboveMaximum. Use the output convention below.

Return caption length and supplied-bound gaps. Require whole 0 <= minimum <= maximum; choose Unicode code-point or UTF-16 length, belowMinimum/aboveMaximum are nonnegative shortfall/excess counts.1

Unicode code points and UTF-16 code units are different counting units. Neither alone measures user-perceived grapheme clusters or rendered text width.2

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
captionCaptionRequired. Text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192.
suppliedMinimumSupplied MinimumRequired. Safe integer; minimum 0.
suppliedMaximumSupplied MaximumRequired. Safe integer.
countCodePointsTrue counts Unicode code points; false counts UTF-16 code units. Neither counts grapheme clusters.Required. Boolean.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
lengthLengthRequired. Safe integer.
belowMinimumNonnegative count shortfall max(0,suppliedMinimum-length), rather than a Boolean.Required. Safe integer.
aboveMaximumNonnegative count excess max(0,length-suppliedMaximum), rather than a Boolean.Required. Safe integer.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Neither unit equals grapheme or visual width in general; no readability, language quality or appropriate caption limit is determined.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Inspect rendered labels and actual layout, and use a complete appropriate color or geometry model when visual appearance matters.
