Description
Return retained solid volume and nominal dry thickness.
Conservation measurements separate nominal material composition, contact geometry, expansion and mechanical response. A volume fraction or clearance term evaluates supplied properties under a limited model; actual material compatibility, treatment effects and object stability require examination and specialist judgment.
Return retained solid volume and nominal dry thickness.
When to use this tool
Use Paint Film Solids Volume Basis when checking the stated conservation material, dimensional or mechanical term.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter wetVolume, solidsFraction, retainedFraction, area. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read solidVolume, dryThickness. Use the output convention below.
Return retained solid volume and nominal dry thickness. Require wetVolume >= 0, both solids/retained fractions in [0,1] and area > 0; solidVolume = wetVolume*solids*retained, dryThickness = solidVolume/area.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| wetVolume | Wet Volume | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| solidsFraction | Solids Fraction Unit: 1. | Required. Finite number; minimum 0; maximum 1. |
| retainedFraction | Retained Fraction Unit: 1. | Required. Finite number; minimum 0; maximum 1. |
| area | Area in the common squared-length unit specified above. | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| solidVolume | Solid Volume | Required. Finite number. |
| dryThickness | Dry Thickness | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Composition and retention are supplied; coating geometry, curing and safe or appropriate treatment are not established.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use calibrated measurements, representative material tests and qualified conservation/engineering assessment before actual treatment, mounting or handling.
