Item Level Barcode Check Digit Validator
Audit actual item-level archive barcode under independently verified institution position-weight/modulus/convention. Not silently assume ISBN/EAN scheme, authenticate object IDsor certify issuer; no duplicate generic barcode algorithm.
Description
Barcode check digits depend on an institution's declared weighting and modulus scheme.
Barcode check digits depend on an institution's declared weighting and modulus scheme.1
A checksum match detects consistency with that scheme rather than authenticity or catalog membership. Use this tool to calculate the stated observation or conditional model from supplied measurements.
When to use Item Level Barcode Check Digit Validator
Use this tool to calculate the stated observation or conditional model from supplied measurements. Establish the institution, collection/material context, applicable standards or authority, reference date and measurement units.
How to use Item Level Barcode Check Digit Validator and understand its results
- Establish the institution, collection/material context, applicable standards or authority, reference date and measurement units.
- Enter actualInstitutionBarcode, callerVerifiedDataPositionWeights, callerVerifiedChecksumModulus, callerVerifiedChecksumConvention, using the field meanings and rules below, then run the tool.
- Read result.conditionalExpectedCheckDigit, result.actualCheckDigit, result.matchesDeclaredInstitutionScheme. Interpret each field using the units, signs and evidence rules below.
- If input validation fails, correct the reported field and run again. Before applying a successful result, check the stated reference scope, units, assumptions and any retained unknown evidence.
| Input field | Meaning | Value type | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| actualInstitutionBarcode | Actual institution barcode | string | Required |
| callerVerifiedDataPositionWeights | Caller verified data position weights | list of number | Required |
| callerVerifiedChecksumModulus | Caller verified checksum modulus | number | Required |
| callerVerifiedChecksumConvention | Caller verified checksum convention | string | Required |
Require 2–128 ASCII decimal barcode digits including the final check digit. Supply exactly one integer weight 0–1000000 per preceding digit, integer modulus 2–10 and exact convention complement or remainder. Sum weighted data digits using BigInt. Expected digit is total%modulus for remainder or (modulus−remainder)%modulus for complement. Return expected, actual and equality flag. Leading zeros are retained; no institution scheme is guessed.
weightedTotal=ΣBigInt(dataDigit_i)×BigInt(weight_i); r=weightedTotal mod m; expected=complement ? (m−r) mod m : r; matches=(expected=finalDigit) Apply the field units and exact ordering, boundary and evidence rules above.
| Output field | Meaning | Value type |
|---|---|---|
| result | Structured result containing the calculation or selected reference fields below | object |
| result.conditionalExpectedCheckDigit | Conditional Expected Check Digit; use the units, sign convention and calculation stated above | number |
| result.actualCheckDigit | Actual Check Digit; use the units, sign convention and calculation stated above | number |
| result.matchesDeclaredInstitutionScheme | Matches Declared Institution Scheme; use the units, sign convention and calculation stated above | boolean |

} Limitations and assumptions
A checksum match detects consistency with that scheme rather than authenticity or catalog membership. Results depend on the independently established measurement basis and the exact model assumptions above.
Every listed input requires an explicit value. Unexpected fields, incorrect value types, nonfinite numbers and sparse numeric arrays fail validation; tool-specific bounds and alignment rules apply as described above. Extremely large inputs or outputs can also be rejected. An input error is distinct from a successful calculation that reports a false comparison or retains unknown evidence.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use Negative Enclosure Number Assignment Sequencer to examine a related aspect: Negative numbering uses a collection namespace and an unused numerical range.
Use Disposal Certificate Batch Reference Generator where its separate inputs and scope apply: A disposal batch reference links approved record IDs to an institution and authorized batch.
