Daily Retrieval Rate Productivity Metric Calculator
Separate successful retrieval productivity from failed attempts and actual productive shift hours; unlike QC digitization count, request success exposure is explicit and not a staffing recommendation.
Description
Retrieval productivity compares successful work with productive shift hours.
Retrieval productivity compares successful work with productive shift hours. Including failed attempts separately reveals a success fraction that a successful-count rate alone would hide.1
Separate successful retrieval productivity from failed attempts and actual productive shift hours; unlike QC digitization count, request success exposure is explicit and not a staffing recommendation.
When to use Daily Retrieval Rate Productivity Metric Calculator
Use this tool to separate successful retrieval productivity from failed attempts and actual productive shift hours; unlike QC digitization count, request success exposure is explicit and not a staffing recommendation.
Prepare the inventory, measurements or policy dates for the collection and reporting period. Confirm units, record order and any independently established thresholds or permissions.
How to use Daily Retrieval Rate Productivity Metric Calculator and understand its results
- Prepare the inventory, measurements or policy dates for the collection and reporting period. Confirm units, record order and any independently established thresholds or permissions.
- Enter successfulRetrievalCountsByShift, unsuccessfulAttemptCountsByShift, productiveRetrievalHours using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
- Read successfulRetrievalsPerProductiveHourByShift, pooledSuccessfulRetrievalsPerProductiveHour, attemptSuccessFraction. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
- If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
| Input field | Meaning | Value type; see rules below | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| successfulRetrievalCountsByShift | Successful retrieval counts by shift | list of number | Required |
| unsuccessfulAttemptCountsByShift | Unsuccessful attempt counts by shift | list of number | Required |
| productiveRetrievalHours | Productive retrieval hours | list of number | Required |
Pair nonnegative integer successful and failed-attempt counts with positive productive hours. At least one attempt across the dataset is required. Return each shift's successful retrieval rate, the pooled rate and the fraction of all attempts that succeeded. Rates are pooled by hours rather than averaged equally across shifts.
Paired lists must be nonempty and have equal lengths.
rate_i = successful_i/hours_i; pooledRate = Σsuccessful/Σhours; successFraction = Σsuccessful/Σattempts Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.
| Output field | Meaning | Value type |
|---|---|---|
| successfulRetrievalsPerProductiveHourByShift | Successful retrievals per productive hour by shift | list of number |
| pooledSuccessfulRetrievalsPerProductiveHour | Pooled successful retrievals per productive hour | number |
| attemptSuccessFraction | Attempt success fraction | number |

} Limitations and assumptions
Productive time and attempt classifications are supplied observations. These measures do not establish staffing needs, service quality or a universal productivity target.
Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Numeric lists are limited to 100,000 entries; the rules above may require smaller limits. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use Paging Request Queue Wait Time Average Calculator: Report actual completed request wait mean separately from pending right-censored lower bounds; no treating missing completion as zero or survival-adjusted service level. For a complementary task, use Reading Room Supervision Ratio Staff-to-Researchers Checker: Audit simultaneous reading-room headcounts against caller supervision ratio by actual interval exposure, retaining understaffing without dividing by zero staff; no safe staffing/legal rule.
