Acoustic Panel Edge Shadow Gap Tool

Calculate acoustic panel edge shadow gap from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Description

Return panel opening dimensions and perimeter reveal area.

Architectural openings and clearances depend on measured boundaries, projection axes and a caller-supplied comparison criterion. A positive geometric margin is distinct from demonstrating code compliance, safe access or a complete door-swing envelope. Plan lengths and projected dimensions must not be mistaken for full spatial measurements.

Return panel opening dimensions and perimeter reveal area.

When to use this tool

Use Acoustic Panel Edge Shadow Gap when checking the stated opening, projection or clearance geometry.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter panelWidth, panelHeight, gap. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read openingWidth, openingHeight, revealArea. Use the output convention below.

Return panel opening dimensions and perimeter reveal area. Require nonnegative panel dimensions/gap; opening adds twice gap on each axis, revealArea = openingArea-panelArea.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • This assumes a uniform rectangular gap; acoustic absorption, fixing design, actual fit and safe installation are not determined.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use complete measured plans and a qualified architectural/engineering assessment with the applicable requirements for real construction or safety decisions.
