Storage Capacity From Vessel Volume

Aggregate interior vessel capacity with explicit usable fill and independently supplied bulk material density; does not infer original contents or nutritional adequacy.

Description

Storage capacity depends on usable fill and the bulk density of the material, not vessel volume alone.

Storage capacity depends on usable fill and the bulk density of the material, not vessel volume alone. Separating usable liters from modeled stored mass exposes both assumptions.1

Aggregate interior vessel capacity with explicit usable fill and independently supplied bulk material density; does not infer original contents or nutritional adequacy.

When to use Storage Capacity From Vessel Volume

Use this tool to aggregate interior vessel capacity with explicit usable fill and independently supplied bulk material density; does not infer original contents or nutritional adequacy.

Prepare the artifact, site or survey measurements and any independently established calibration or model choices. Keep paired observations aligned and confirm units and coordinate conventions.

How to use Storage Capacity From Vessel Volume and understand its results

  1. Prepare the artifact, site or survey measurements and any independently established calibration or model choices. Keep paired observations aligned and confirm units and coordinate conventions.
  2. Enter vesselInteriorVolumesLiters, usableFillFractions, storedMaterialBulkDensityKgPerLiter using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
  3. Read usableStorageLiters, modelStoredMassKg. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
  4. If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.

usableFillFractionsUsable fill fractionslist of numberRequired
storedMaterialBulkDensityKgPerLiterStored material bulk density kg per liternumberRequired

Pair nonnegative interior volumes in liters with fill fractions in [0,1], and supply positive material bulk density in kg/liter. Sum usable capacity and multiply by density. Return usable liters and modeled stored mass in kg.

Paired lists must be nonempty and have equal lengths.

usableLiters = Σ(interiorVolume_i fillFraction_i); storedKg = usableLiters × bulkDensity

Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.

Limitations and assumptions

The tool does not infer original vessel contents, packing behavior or nutritional adequacy. Fill fractions and density must be appropriate to the same stored material and condition.

Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Numeric lists are limited to 100,000 entries; the rules above may require smaller limits. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use Vessel Volume From Rim Diameter: Reconstruct piecewise conical-frustum interior volume from a supplied normalized vessel profile scaled by measured interior rim diameter; no universal rim-only vessel shape assumed. For a complementary task, use Slag Iron Yield: Balance elemental iron in declared feed, slag and other loss to a recovered-iron scenario; elemental versus oxide assay basis must be consistent, and slag composition alone cannot establish yield.
