Description

Preserve an explicit waterbody salinity transcription and reference scale.

Aquatic measurements depend on depth datums, effective sampling area, layer weights and concentration definitions. Secchi pair averages differ from a full optical model, and particulate-by-difference values depend on comparable total/dissolved measurements. A nominal rectangular sampling volume does not establish actual filtered effort or detection.

Preserve an explicit waterbody salinity transcription and reference scale.

When to use this tool

Use Waterbody Salinity Reference Tag when you already have sampleId, salinityText, referenceScale and need to preserve an explicit waterbody salinity transcription and reference scale.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter sampleId, salinityText, referenceScale. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read token. Use the output convention below.

Enter sampleId, salinityText, referenceScale using the field constraints below. Encode these values, in exactly that order, as a JSON array and return the serialized array as text in token. String values are preserved without trimming or external terminology lookup.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • The result records supplied values without converting scales. Sources and asserted relationships are not independently authenticated.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Review original field and laboratory records with the complete survey or process model. Include calibration, temporal coverage, sampling efficiency and uncertainty when local rates, depth shifts or labels cannot establish the aquatic quantity of interest.
