Aquatic Sample Tide Phase Label

Attach an explicitly observed tide-phase category and source to an aquatic sample without predicting tide times.

Description

Label a supplied sample tide phase and source.

Aquatic measurements depend on depth datums, effective sampling area, layer weights and concentration definitions. Secchi pair averages differ from a full optical model, and particulate-by-difference values depend on comparable total/dissolved measurements. A nominal rectangular sampling volume does not establish actual filtered effort or detection.

Label a supplied sample tide phase and source.

When to use this tool

Use Aquatic Sample Tide Phase Label when you already have sampleId, phase, phaseSource and need to label a supplied sample tide phase and source.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter sampleId, phase, phaseSource. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read label. Use the output convention below.

Require sampleId/phaseSource nonempty and phase flood, ebb, high-water, low-water, slack or unknown; append both phase and source.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • No tide is predicted or measured, and local currents need not align exactly with water-level extrema. The tool preserves the stated phase rather than verifying it.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Review original field and laboratory records with the complete survey or process model. Include calibration, temporal coverage, sampling efficiency and uncertainty when local rates, depth shifts or labels cannot establish the aquatic quantity of interest.
